Some examples are when one is reading a book, watching a movie or driving a car. Have you ever been so engrossed in a good book that the outer world just seemed to melt away?
Or been driving and thinking about something so intensely and got to your destination without consciously being aware of all the activities to get you there like shifting, turning, stopping at stop signs etc.? These are just a couple of examples of how we enter an altered state of awareness each and every day. Now you're going to learn how to enter this state at will and use it to help you create and live the life of your dreams! |

| Q. |
I think I'm going into hypnosis, but I'm not sure… |
| A. |
You most likely are. Because hypnosis is such a natural state for us it really is quite easy to go trance/hypnosis. Here are some common signs of hypnosis:
Bodily warmth, eyelids flutter, increased lacrimation (watering of the eyes particularly on the outer edges of the eyes), bloodshot eyes, eyes rolling up as if looking into the forehead, profound levels of pleasant muscular and mental relaxation, and slow easy breathing, just to name a few. Hypnosis is such a subjective experience and just allow yourself to have what ever experience that you're having. |

| Q. |
I've heard some myths about hypnosis… |
| A. |
Yes, some people have heard myths or have misconceptions about hypnosis.
Many of these misconceptions come from Hollywood movies and misunderstandings about how stage hypnosis works. Let us take a moment and address some of these misconceptions.
| |
Myth: You can become unconscious during hypnosis.
Truth: False! Individuals senses are generally enhanced during hypnosis (hyper acuity), in may cases more than if they were in a fully awakened state. Individuals hear and are actually aware of everything going on around them, however their ability to focus is so enhanced that they choose to focus on the experience. |
| |
Myth: You can get stuck in hypnosis.
Truth: False! No one can get “stuck” in hypnosis. You go to sleep every night and wake up every morning without consciously being aware of exactly how you do it. So in the same way the body naturally knows how to come out of this deeply relaxed state with ease and grace. |
| |
Myth: The strong-minded are not easily hypnotized.
Truth: False! In fact just the opposite is true. Intelligent and creative people usually enter hypnosis easier. Remember- hypnosis is the power of YOUR mind. |
| |
Myth: Hypnosis is a truth serum.
Truth: False! When in hypnosis, you will learn amazing and interesting things about yourself. But the conscious mind is always present to decide what you want to keep to yourself and to filter what you say out loud. You'll never say or do something outside your moral code. |

| Q. |
Can you explain how the mind works in relation to hypnotherapy? |
| A. |
Of course. To illustrate how the mind works in relation to hypnotherapy we will use a model referred to as a triune mind, meaning three levels or layers of the mind. The conscious mind (which includes the critical factor), subconscious and super conscious.
| • |
The conscious mind is the reasoning analytical mind. It is where willpower originates. It's logical. It’s your analytical and choice making mind. And controls the five senses. So, in short, it is your normal walking around awareness. |
| • |
The critical factor is a gatekeeper and filtering mechanism of the conscious mind. IT examines incoming ideas and data through a filtering screen from past experiences and interpretations. When a person is only using his/her conscious level of thinking only ideas that are congruent with the ideas in the subconscious are allowed to enter the deeper subconscious level of the mind. In hypnosis by relaxing the critical factor you are able to saturate your subconscious mind with healthy, healing, positive ideas. |
| • |
The subconscious mind is the feeling and emotional mind. It stores input from all your six senses. It’s an associating making mechanism that works at lightning quick speed. Meaning that you will associate new ideas or new data with old data. The subconscious mind has thousands of times more storage than any computer. And it stores every impression that is received. It prioritizes what is stores according to the emotional intensity of the moment. It is a survival mind, developed by the need to stay alive and safe. Hence, memories of fear and pain are high priority. However it's also the inner creative mind and the seat of imagination. So there is a lot of power to harness by communicating with the subconscious mind. So in summary, the quality of one's thoughts at the subconscious level dictates the quality of one's life experience. This is important in hypnotherapy, because you can change the quality of your thoughts at the subconscious level and create a profound effect in the quality of your life experience! |
